Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Land Rover Range Rover Velar have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Jaguar F-Pace doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the Range Rover Velar and the F-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Range Rover Velar gets better mileage than the F-Pace:

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Land Rover Range Rover Velar higher (7 out of 10) than the Jaguar F-Pace (3 to 7). This means the Range Rover Velar produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the F-Pace every 15,000 miles.

Suspension and Handling

The Range Rover Velar has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover Velar’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The Range Rover Velar Dynamic SE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the F-Pace (26.2 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 26.8 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Velar w/Air Suspension has a 1.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the F-Pace SVR (9.9 vs. 8.6 inches), allowing the Range Rover Velar to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Range Rover Velar is 5.5 inches narrower than the F-Pace, making the Range Rover Velar easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The design of the Land Rover Range Rover Velar amounts to more than styling. The Range Rover Velar has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .32 Cd. That is significantly lower than the F-Pace (.36) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Range Rover Velar get better fuel mileage.

Towing

Maximum trailer towing in the Jaguar F-Pace is limited to 5291 pounds. The Range Rover Velar offers up to a 5511 lbs. towing capacity.

Ergonomics

The Range Rover Velar’s optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The F-Pace SVR’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

Recommendations

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar outsold the Jaguar F-Pace by 31% during 2023.
